1. Custom Transcribing
Tablature
can be provided for any song from any recording. Solos or backup (if backup can
be heard clearly enough). This service is available for banjo, guitar (acoustic flatpicked
only), mandolin, and bass (electric or upright).
Transcriptions will be in the form of clear, neat, hand written tablature.
You must send a copy of the recording on tape or CD (regular mail) or .mp3 file
(email).
2. Custom
Composing
A solo
can be created to your specifications and written out for any song you send. The
song may already have a solo, but you may want something different that suits
you. Or, there may not be a solo on the instrument you desire. Or it may not
contain any solo at all on the original recording. Especially in the latter
case, you may want to take advantage of the next service (no. 3. below) so you
can hear exactly how the solo should sound. Please describe in detail the type
of solo you prefer. This may require an email conversation (or phone, if
necessary) in order to insure that the solo is created to your liking. (Examples:
1. simple beginner 2. advanced 3. lots
of flashy licks 4. basic, emphasizing melody, etc.)
3. Tablature RecordingAny tablature you send
can be played (on the desired instrument) and recorded onto MP3 file, tape, or
CD so you can hear how it should sound. The tab will played through at two
speeds for ease of learning. This service can be especially helpful when ordering
Custom Composing. (Service no. 2 above) Click

4. Chord ChartsIf you only need
the chords to a particular song or passage, these can be written out in the
standard style of the Nashville Number System. These will contain the chord
names but the chord numbers can be added at no extra charge, if you request. In this case, the chart will be written out twice, once with chord names, and
once with chord numbers. You will be charge
only once for major parts that repeat. Click here to see an example

5. Tablature
ListFREE list of
over 600 banjo solos already transcribed. These are sold at much lower prices than the custom
transcribing rate. All styles and playing levels are represented here by many of
your favorite players. Click below to view this list. This should

6. Free Tab
Check
out the tablature samples below. (Click on the little "tab guys".) Some are transcriptions
and some are custom composed solos (those with "Steve Garner"
listed as the artist are the custom composed solos.) Feel free to print these out
if you like. These will give you an idea of how your tablature will look.
These are hand crafted and are very clear and easy to read. This should

HOW IT WORKS
1. SEND "MP3" FILE, CD,
OR TAPE
Send one of the following: (a)mp3 file or (b)CD or (c)good quality cassette tape copy of the music you want transcribed. You can edit the
recording to include only the exact parts you want written out or the whole song.
SEND NO MONEY UP FRONT. Click on
"mp3" link above to see how you can send your recording as an mp3 file attachment to
your email. Sending your recording this way saves a lot of time and
postage expense. Tapes and CD's are not returned.
2. TELL ME WHAT YOU
WANT
Include instructions telling exactly which
parts you want transcribed into tablature (or ask for one of the other A.C.T. services.) You can (a) edit your recording to include only those passages you want or
(b) record the entire song and describe in detail where in the song the desired
passages are located. (Example: "entire second banjo solo, immediately after
guitar solo.") Also include any other special instructions. Include mailing
address, phone number, and email address.

3. TRANSCRIBING
Tablature
is carefully written out for an exact note-for-note transcription of the desired
piece. I will take as much time as necessary to get every note correct. I will
indicate any area(s) of the piece where I may be unsure, for some reason, of
what is being played. This usually only happens when (a) the recording is
of poor quality or (b) music being transcribed cannot be heard
adequately behind other music. I rarely have to
decline orders that I deem too time consuming to be feasible.
4. GET TABLATURE
BACK
Tablature is sent
back to you with a bill. (As long as I don't run into any problems with this,
and I haven't so far, I will be happy to offer this NO MONEY UP FRONT
service to my
customers.) If you have questions about the tablature, please contact me
immediately after receiving it and it will be cleared up before you send
payment. Otherwise, payment is due upon receipt of tab. TABLATURE IS NORMALLY EMAILED TO YOU AS A .PDF
FILE. (You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to open these files. I
will send you a link with your tab as to where you can download this program
free.)

* "Confirmation" means the point at which all
questions about your order have cleared up and work on the order can begin. Your
tablature will be sent by email (or put in the regular mail) within 1 week of that
point.
Most NORMAL
PRIORITY orders are completed in about 2 to 3 weeks, but
cannot be guaranteed. However, turnaround time can be guaranteed time with
the RUSH option. With the volume of tablature work done
here, it is seldom possible to get a NORMAL PRIORITY order
out in a week, especially a large order.
RUSH
orders are processed by my putting in extra overtime transcribing
hours. This has the effect of putting a RUSH order ahead of all
other pending orders without actually delaying normal priority orders. I f, for any reason, you tab
should fail to be sent during the promised time frame, your cost would drop to
the regular rate.

fretted instrument music for over 25 years. I learned to play by using this
approach from very early on and have honed and polished it every day since the
very beginning. I have used this skill in every facet of my professional music
career whether it be performing, teaching, or authoring articles for major
