Let's face it, it's not cheap to buy a professional transcriber's
time. First of all, it takes many years of musical
experience to develop both the mastery of a fretted instrument and
the ear skills necessary to accurately decipher just any piece someone
throws at you. Therefore, time is very valuable anyone who would even offer
this service.
One potential problem with custom transcribing is knowing how much
tablature you can get for your money. If I charged by the hour (after all,
time is the issue), I would have to say, "Send me your tape and as much
money as you can and I'll write until I run out of your money." That's
going to leave you pretty much in the dark about how much you're getting
until you get it back in the mail. We can do better than that at here at
Accurate Custom Tablature.
Although I arrived at my transcribing rate based on a rough estimate
of dollars per hour, I converted it to a more practical form at the outset
- $1.50 PER MEASURE ($2.00 for RUSH). Pricing on a per measure
basis has two distinct advantages:
- 1. I will give your recording a quick listen-through, then email you
back with a rough cost estimate for your approval before I begin the job.
All I have to do is count the measures as I listen.
- 2. or . . . YOU, THE CUSTOMER, CAN FIGURE THE COST
OF YOUR ORDER BEFORE YOU EVEN SEND IT ! All you have to do is count
the measures in the piece(s) you want transcribed and multiply by $1.50 ($2.00
for RUSH).
"Hold on now!" you say, "I don't have any idea how to do that!" Well, I'm going to give you an effective method to figure out how many measures are in a given piece or passage for most musical styles . . . .
